Skaņaiskalns Nature Park features one of the most beautiful nature trails in Latvia, where along the peaceful banks of the Salaca River you can find impressive sandstone outcrops and the deepest cave in the country.
The hike begins with an impressive viewpoint just a few hundred meters from the start, where you stand by the river and admire a stunning sandstone cliff. From there, the trail leads toward a notable hillfort, which you reach by crossing a charming pedestrian bridge.
The route then follows a former railway line to the outskirts of the town, from where a beautiful tree-lined avenue leads you into the forest, along scenic paths and trails, until you reach the deepest cave in Latvia, next to which there is a great resting spot on top of the bluff.
The route continues along the upper banks of the Salaca River, passing sandstone outcrops, springs, environmental objects, and fairytale figures, all the way to the finish, where you can congratulate yourself on a well-spent day in nature.
