The Realm of the Red Cliffs of the Amata

Following the in-person “The Realm of the Red Cliffs of the Amata” event, which took place on 21 March 2026, a digital version of this route is also available in the ROVER+ app.

The legendary Amata River, with its murmuring flow and adrenaline-filled rapids in spring, invites everyone to feel the power of nature. Its banks are adorned with impressive cliff outcrops surrounded by picturesque forests, creating a unique and unforgettable landscape.

The Amata hiking story begins at one of the most impressive natural wonders in Vidzeme. From there, you will follow roads and trails towards the river bends, where the Amata gains strength, surging against striking sandstone cliffs of various colours. You will discover them one after another along the riverbanks, climb one of the steepest natural formations by the river, and view the Amata from a bird’s-eye perspective, breathing in the fresh forest air and enjoying the beautiful nature of your homeland, until you return to the finish with a bag full of beautiful photos.
