The hiking routes lead through Koknese’s historic landmarks and the picturesque landscapes along the Daugava and Pērse rivers. Along the way, you will discover the Koknese Manor complex, the park and the site of the once-famous Pērse Waterfall, explore the impressive medieval Koknese Castle ruins and follow the Daugava River to the Garden of Destiny (Likteņdārzs). Here, natural beauty blends with Latvia’s history and the stories of its people. The routes combine historic monuments and meaningful memorial sites with peaceful walking trails and sweeping river views.
Large Loop
The longest and most varied route takes you further beyond Koknese, along secluded country roads and forest trails to the legendary Pastmuiža Devil’s Stone, Rīteri Quarry, a dry riverbed and karst sinkholes. On the way back, you will also visit the memorial to Koknese’s Jewish families. Here, historical landmarks give way to wilder nature and unusual landscapes.
Medium Loop
In addition to Koknese’s main attractions, this route leads through forests and along quiet country roads to Pastmuiža Devil’s Stone and Rīteri Quarry. On the way back, you will also pass the memorial to Koknese’s Jewish families. A great choice for combining history with an adventure in nature.
Small Loop
The shortest route takes you to Koknese’s most remarkable historical and natural landmarks – the Pērse Valley, medieval castle ruins, the banks of the Daugava River and the Garden of Destiny.
